    1DVDCOPY / Watchitlater.exe scam

I bought 1DVDCOPY from a guy at a MarketPro computer show. The program is obviously a hack of DVD Shrink, but the guy had also wrapped it in an installer package that required Microsoft XP-style "activation."

I was unable to get the program to activate (or run) -- which probably a stroke of luck. He then gave me an "unlocked" version with the name Watchitlater.exe, gravely telling me that he was "trusting" me not to redistribute it. Didn't work right either.

BTW, his file was a lot bigger than the DVD Shrink.exe (912K vs 256K), so I wonder whether if it contains some kind of spyware too.

Finally, the guy gave me my money back, realizing that I was planning to be more trouble than he bargained for-- and that was before I knew he was a thief rather than merely an entrepreneur with lousy QA.

The DVD Shrink ripoff was this guy's only product. He's been at subsequent shows, so I guess he's selling enough copies @ $59.95 to make back a profit even after paying MarketPro.

    "He's been at subsequent shows"

Have you advised the "MarketPro" people of this?

Haven't had the opportunity yet. Only discovered the similarity between 1DVDCOPY and DVD Shrink a couple of days ago, but I plan to pursue this with MarketPro.

        1dvdcopy

I too bought a program called 1dvdcopy from a guy at a show and installed it , I have to say that it is the best program out for copying up-to date movie dvd's onto one dvd blank, I dont know why you would not like it if you too got the same program as I?

Okay, tekkno, try DVD Shrink, which is available at http://www.dvdshrink.org. I think the guys selling 1DVDCOPY appropriated and added their own activation scheme to DVD Shrink. DVD Shrink, aside from being free, actually works. None of the various versions of 1DVDCOPY from the guys at the MarketPro show ever did. I suspect they messed something up in applying their copy protection scheme. Their web-based registration/activation never worked right either. DVD Shrink is a great program. If you got a working version of it (sold as 1DVDCOPY), then you got a great program. Unfortunately, you paid a bunch of money for something that is available for free, to guys who probably are violating the copyright of the actual author. I tend to believe DVD Shrink is the original and 1DVDCOPY the stolen version, b/c there have been later releases and enhancements to DVD Shrink and their website actually has some info on it -- unlike 1DVDCOPY's site.
