I saw your post on dvd player failing to read dvds after installing Win XP. I have a similar problem, did you ever solve it?

It's a bummer because I just bought Half Life 2 on dvd and can't play it

Potential fix

Hi,

I had the same problem with my Compaq Presario 1700 with Toshiba DVD-ROM SD-R2002 combo drive when I installed XP. It appears that the DVD decoder was at fault. I managed to fix the problem by installing an XP compatible decoder from NVIDIA (http://www.nvidia.com/object/dvd_dec....67-trial.html)
