Windows Media Player like program

i have heard rumors of someone creating a program that runs very similar to WMP (ie displaying cd covers, song titles, etc) but for DVD's. i have all my dvd's at my house in utah, and have a media pc in vegas. instead of backing up all my movies on dvd for vegas, i planned on just putting them on a hard drive to play them from my media pc. what would the best process be to make this happen?
