      it shouldn't unless it's going bad, the firmware is definitely bad on the combo



      just trying to isolate the problem and rule out a conflict

        ok so what should i do. that link you sent me didnt have any updates on that driver. and i novice at best on computer lingo etc. i do appreciate your help.

          yes your combo firmware is old and there's no update, so for now try to test the dvd burner with the combo disconnected

              nero tool report looked fine, but your original problems with region setting and
              dma being lost? might disappear?

              how are the drives connected and jumpers set now?

                the one i installed (the slave) is installed to the one that came with the computer (the master) which is the one with the problems. and then they are connected to whatever its supposed to connect to. what do you mean when u say jumpers

                                my misunderstanding, I thought you were talking of changing them

                                since they have been hooked/set correctly, then test just the dvd burner
                                connected or try another cable???

                                I had an old liteon combo that kept losing dma until I could update the firmware
