that makes a dv signal from a analog composite or s-video
signal, you dont need a special capture card, only a firewire port,
and the software of your own choice, the device only comes

This device has a "cheat-mode" for Macrovision....
I would be interested in one of these, could you advise me where I could purchase please

      Problem solved....

Thanks for the Info but I found a much easier and Cheaper solution for that "#$&*%" Macrovision crap I found an old Hauppauge WinTv card at a Church Computer sale well I'll be dammed it copies all my VHS tapes even those that I couln't with the Sima Copy master!!! in fact I just sold it on e-bay as I no longer need it this Win TV product copies the source signal as clear as the original broadcast. The only drawback is a maximum capture on 352x480 Mpeg2 half D1 but since that's over the max resoulution of VHS tape who cares! I use my ATI All-in-Wonder for all other capture needs I've heard that most Hauppauge products ignore Macrovision and record it easily. So now I can move my daughters VHS Disney colection to DVD.

Pinnacle DV500 ignores Macrovision, even with the last ever issued drivers installed. On top of this, it comes with Adobe Premier etc. so it's a real nice Analogue & DV capture device.

These have now become obsolete, so you can pick them up quite cheap including the software on a number of auction sites (I bought mine new, years ago).......

I also have an Nvidia MyVIVO, which if you load the WDM 1.08 drivers (check our google) will also record just fine. However, the drivers and Studio v9 are not a good combo (hung system). WMD drivers after this will record with a big white bar in the middle of the screen.

          VHS to DVD conversions

Has anyone tried one of the new Dazzle DVC 150s ? I have a lot of VHS Tapes and the reviews look very good.

I have a high end GeForce w/TV out and I'm not interested in a TV Tuner card, also the portability of the DVC 150 apeals to me.

Interesting. However does not support SECAM and seems locked on small format (320X240). Any clue?

              whats the answer

i'm trying to record a bunch of tapes from the vcr into my tv-in on the video card
i have a device to clean up the signal that works really well , and i can capture full resolution without dropping frames, however, it only records tv with color, but the tapes are just black and white
how do i make the tapes color like they appear on the tv ???????????

that program works pretty fine for me, just as well as the other programs (iuvcr, virtualvcr etc)

i rip straight to xvid in turbo mode without dropping any frames (you'll have to adjust quality setting in xvid options until it doesn't drop any frames)

i use 3.00 quantization and for audio just uncompressed pcm, then later encode both again to preferred formats using avisynth

                  works great

close ALL the programs on your computer, and stop as many services as possible, (automatic updates, task schedular, etc etc) then you will far less chance of dropped frames

well the files i end up with are about 5-10 gig per hour of compressed avi

maybe you're using raw uncompressed avi?
you should a type of mpeg codec usually

yeah i use virtual vcr mostly

by the way anyone know about my previous Q?

if you're using a capture card you need to select the line in as the audio source, which you would have had to connect from your sound card to the tv or vcr, or if you are using a tv tuner, select that audio crossbar
