    TO: UncasMS Beware of Tsunami Help

    I downloaded and installed Tsunami like you suggested.

    When I went to use Winmedia player, it would not play any of the AVIs that it had
    before.

    I had installed DivX4Win40a50.exe and iv5setup.exe, and together they were able to
    play almost all the avis, and the last produced Divx.2.0 alpha player which played the
    other. Tsunami was instaled on top of this.

    When it would not work I uninstalled all codec packs and Winmedia player. I
    reinstalled the previous copy of the registry, reinstalled Winmedia player
    6.4.07.1112, reinstalled the two previous Divx codec files. It did not work.

    Properties suggest the following codecs are needed but not present:

    DX50 The avi actually plays, but most of the screen is bright green.

    div4 This avi locks up the entire computer requiring a reset and the blue screen of
    death (Scandisk).

    MP42 Winmedia player does nothing. There are stationary green patches on the
    player screen.

    div3 codex and divx codec also cause computer lockups when those avis are
    attempted to be played.

    I have spent a day on this trying to recover the previous position. It is very frustrating
    since it WAS working before the Tsunami package. I guess that the title is right and
    it washes everything away.

    iv5setup.exe does not produce the divx player anymore when it is run.

    Computer details:
    ATI Rage Pro Turbo AGP 2X

    64Mb Ram AMD 333hz Win95

    How can I get back to where I was???

    hmm

    sorry to hear that your system was screwed.

    i'm still more than convinced that tsunamis filterpacks is one of the best available.

    i'd suggest to install tsunami first and then divx 5.02 (dont forget to remove the spyware [take a look at my guide under gordianknot].

    this way you should have MS Mpeg4 as well as divx codecs installed.

    do NOT install divx4 since divx5 will play all 4 content. if you do, however, 4 will mess with settings of the latest divx5 codec.

    that's why divx5 should be installed AFTER all other filter/coecs.

    ++
    reinstalled the previous copy of the registry
    ++
    this of course might cause some trouble now, since your old registry entries will refer to filters/codecs that might not be present any longer.

    i'd suggest to reinstall divx5.02 first and see if all your avi types will be played.

    if i remember correctly you were in need of MS mpeg v2

    thus divx5.02 can not be the one and only codec to go for.
