can u compress a divx????

hey people,

i usually use easydivx but lately it has been doing it without soud, so i am now using flaskmpeg and i have only just been able to use the DVtool but i have previously done about 6 dvds and they have turned out to be around 1.2gig in size.
I know i can use virtualdub and split them into two but i was just wondering if there is anyway of compressing the .AVI files to fit onto one cd??

you could actually re-encode the video by using a smaller bitrate and save it to divx again.

if the quality will decrease too much is something you should test with a small testfile/part
