Just wandering whats the smallest form of video with the best picture can i convert my dvd into? and how many cd's will that form usually be? I know it all depends on the size of DVD on how big of file but whats the smallest file format out there with the best picture! for example Divx, Xvid, VCD, SVCD, and so on and so on!! Thanx for your help!!

      Well it depends.

If you want the movies to be playable on a standalone DVD player, you have to use VCD or SVCD (only some players will do SVCD).

If you only need playback on your PC, DivX (or any other Mpeg-4 format) is by far the best choise. With DivX5 pro you can quite often fit a 100 minute movie on 1 CD and get pretty good quality at 640*X or more.

You probably haven't muxed (or extracted) the audio
          yet(Use Virtual Dub or NanDub).

Without knowing any of the settings you used, that is pretty much impossible to answer. But 400 MB is cirtainly way too small even without audio.

Usually you'll want the main audio track, the filename of which will contain the string "T01". But of course for 1 CD rips I strongly recommend converting it to mp3.

That depends on the length of the video.
When the movie is over 2 hours long I encode it to two cd's with ac3 sound. If the movie is under 2 hrs I encode with 128k mp3.
                    And over 2h30min I use mp3 again.
Just experiment with different setting to hit your goal.

                    Cheers
