Gordian Knot makes small files

I'm using Gordian Knot to make my Divx-films. I read the guide from this homepage:
DVD Backup Guide

I followed those rules, but finally GK comes up with a file of 250 MB, while I set it up for 695 MB.

I noticed that GK has problems with reading in some log-files that it should have created, which I couldn't find also.

Anyone familiar with this problem??

seems like GK was not able to use the appropriate codec, i.e. divx5

make sure to have that codec installed.

download the TsunamiFilterpack 396 (not the miniversion) from my page and install that pack via custom (with default settings).

If I'm able to play DivX-movies, does that mean that the codec was installed correctly?? If so, then I'm sure the codec was already installed.
GK's transcript doesn't complain about not finding DivX or so. When I installed GK, I did a full install, so my guess is that that is not the problem. Any other hints???

There are many versions of divx, to encode with version 5.02 you need to have version 5.02 installed. The tsunami pack will install this.

It doesn't' complain because it doesn't check.

This is exactly the problem, you probably installed divx4 with it. Divx5 does not like coexisting with divx4, so divx5 left your system (assuming that you ever had divx5 installed). Then you patched GKnot to version 0.26 which does not work with divx4.

Installing the codec packed did it all. I entered 695 MB for fill size, and GK made a file of .......... 695 MB. Amazing!!!!!! :

file size problems

the last few rips i have made with gordian knot have resulted in similar problem. i'm positive i have the 5.0.2 pack in because when i goto divx decode configuration it shows 5.0.2 (non pro) version. when i go into the virtualdub job controll box it says divx4 first/second pass?? does it always show this? what am i doing wrong?? i ripped 3 dvd's ok 1.4gb and now for some reason 3 250mb duds??

Post you *_gknot.log file.

You can also try manually setting up the encoding in virtualdub using the avs file created by GKnot. As per this guide.
