A lot of media players will have the option to capture a frame in a given video stream they are playing. For example, PowerDVD can capture a frame from a DVD video it is playing, and BSPlayer can do the same with video files.

DVD - Use WinDVD, press the "P" key

.AVI, etc - Load into VirtualDub/NanDub etal - Go to frame you want to copy, select "Copy to clipboard" from dropdown menus...

or use the alt + printscreen button, and then go to a picture editor and do ctrl +v.

To capture your whole windows screen simply click on "Prt Scrn" and then you can just paste it into "Paint" and save it as a bitmap or jpeg image.

Nothing's supposed to happen, apart from when you paste it into Microsoft Paint, your desktop image should appear.

"are you talking about the print screen on the keyboard?? if so nothing happens when I press it"

Unless you've got a dead "PrintScreen" key on your keyboard, pressing that key makes a copy of your entire desktop to the clipboard (Holding down the "Alt" key while pressing the "PrintScreen key will capture only the active Window). If you then run a graphics or paint program, simply select "Paste" to create a copy of the image...

or maybe right click on the white area, and click paste.
