    DivX hangs computer.

Have been having this extremely anoying problem with ALL Divx codecs available. I have tried all versions i can find. Always with the same result. The computer hangs, just freezes, ... i can process any other kind of video streams (mpeg or Xvid) with no problems. I have tried to reinstall directx, i have tried to change memory and cpu, i have tried another video card, reinstalled Win, tried both Win98, 2K and XP, with same result. Does'nt matter wich program i use to decode (Virtualdub och TMPgenc). Please help!

What players have you tried? Perhaps give BSPLAYER a try.

          Playing is possible

I have no problems playing Divx coded films, just when de/en-coding.

Is this a recent occurence? Have you made any system changes?

Do you by chance have a codec pack (such as NIMO or ACE) installed? If so uninstall them.

BTW are you sure you have the divx codecs (not FFDSHOW)?

              hehe

Oh man, i think i have tried ALL of the available codecs online by now. I have tried EVERY encoding-decoding software i can find, but with the same result. The computer just freezes up. The occurance is intermittent and occurs when it wants so to speak.
There seems to be no problem when decoding/encoding with the VidX codecs though.

Uninstall all codecs you don't need....they can cause system conflicts.

Secondly, what if any error does Virtualdub produce? How are you encoding?

                    - install latest mainboard/chipset driver

                    - make sure you dont have irq conflicts

                      Tried that too

Tried that too, installed the latest drivers of everything, ... have tried to reinstall XP (clean format) with no other hardware installed than the videocard, no IRQ conflicts, same problem still. Beggining to suspect a motherboard failure. The CPU temp is stable, ... am about to throw the entire set out the window soon...

This is the same with XP video drivers and Nvidia video drivers?

You Nvidia drivers are sometimes picky with DivX codecs. I had the problem a while ago I went rolled back to a previous driver and things started working a little better but I don't know how much the drivers got to do with the codecs

Have you installed the motherboard driver yet?
