    How to view XVid Movie?

    Hi everyone,

I got the beautiful movie "Samsara" and I can't see it

Someone gave me "CodecViewer 1.5" and it says I need XVID codec. I tried to find XVID, but I am quite confused, because there are so many different descriptions and links. Some say I need to comile the movie (???), some say I can't view it at all.

    I would like to know:

How can I find out what exactly i need?

What do I need and how to install it.

    Thanks in advance.

    Aaah... I got a windows 2000 SP 3 System.

I prefer Quicktime, but I would use any other programm if necessary. I come back to the forum soon

    Cheers

      Trying out Koepi's XviD

Great! It is cool that someone answers so quickly, thank you!

I installed the latest XviD from Koepi's page, and now at least Windows Media Player can convert the video information. Superior quality!!! But still no audio. Quicktime says it cannot find the neccesary codec and shows only a white screen.

OK, I'll try the other codec now and I will have a look at the audio also, maybe it needs a different codec.

      I will report here later

      Thank you guys!

I tried the alpha version (which is newer) - I also installed the seperate dll:

On Windows Media Player now there are red patterns in the movie, but still no sound. See attachment of this message.

Quicktime still says codec not found and shows a white movie.

I will try the other version of FFDshow, which is older but not alpha (so it is release-quality i assume)

        see you soon

The attachment was lost, I don't know why, maybe there is only one picture allowed per thread and poster?

Where to find "DVM" & "AC3" audio codecs?

            But still no audio.
CodecViewer 1.5 says the audio codec is DVM or AC3

            Where could I get these?

            Thank you

It's good to see that the video is working for you already. Since Koepi's plain vanilla decoder works for you, you should continue using it.

As for the audio, do the following to determine what codec you are missing:

Load up the AVI file into GSpot and post a screenshot of the information displayed here.

              Alternatively,
              1. Open the file in Virtualdub
              2. Go to File -> File Information
              3. Post what information you see here

Note: If it turns out that you do need the AC3 codec, installing an AC3 codec from a codec pack, such as Tsunami, should dolve your sound problem.

                    naganathar,

the tsunami pack 389 is completely out of date.

                    pls do NOT use it.

397 was released some 6 weeks ago, 398 two days ago but is still being worked on (that's why i do not offer it for public download atm)

download 397 from my page (second pic in my signature) and make sure to have the necessary xvid codecs ticked, when installing!
