        Macrovision is an anti piracy system used on dvds, it tricks whatever is recording from the original into thinking that the video stream is going from one end of the contrast scale to the other, so as to make crap copies.

        this can be sorted by ensuring that macrovision is removed when you rip the vobs off the dvd, pritty much any vob ripper should be able to this.

          Could also just be poor encoding. Are all the files from the same ripping group/person?
