playback problems in windows xp sp1 and directx 9a

Look this is simple and not so simple, the deal is, i like to watch movies in .avi format in my computer (divx compression, mpeg, etc) the fact is that i'm using the earlyest version of windows xp pro that means with no service pack installed. Using the system as it is with no sp1 and no directx 9a i can watch all the movies and formats in the market (with the help of nimo codec pack) but after installing either directx 9a or service pack 1 some of those movies wont work at all not even sound, not even with the same codec combination used after the dx9 and sp1 installation.

So my question is ¿what changes so much in dx9a or sp1 that makes some of those formats or compression styles impossible to run or watch, and what can i do to solve this?.

Try reinstalling your codecs. I'm running WinXP SP1 with DX9 and have no problems at all.

Yeah but what about media player 9+

The thing is that im trying to play it using windows media player 9 and sp1 and direct x9, but it doesnt matter what combination of codecs from nimo 5.7, 5.8 or 5.9 beta i use, it wont work at all and im still getting that damn "windows media encountered an unknown error" message, is that class factory error i cant get rid of it help please, i even try installing windows 2000 pro but was the same deal

for the record im using windows xp pro spanish version and hummm it is so frustrating it works perfect with the earlyer version of windows xp :¿ why not in sp1 version :¿ :¿

Use the older and more reliable WMP 6.4 (run the command "mplayer2.exe" from the Run Command). Alternatively, use BSPlayer.
