    divx question

I am trying to learn how to make divx files from DVDs and I found this guide

A complete guide for DVD to DivX and Xvid conversion, now featuring instructions for Xvid encoding (page 3 of 5)

so I tried doing what it said (used xmpeg 5.0 final) and every time my file ends up about 2.5 gigs even though I specify in the plugin options (or something like that) that I want the file to end up 700 mb.

Hope you guys have some ideas as to what I am doing wrong.

    Thanks!

Sounds like you have not specified a compression method for the audio stream, thus resulting in a file that contains uncompressed WAV rather than MP3/OGG. Ensure that you have got the right audio codec installed in your system.

You should also try out DVX or GordianKnot, as alternatives to XMPEG. Both utilise commonly used and reliable methods, and users of either of these programs have reported their satisfaction. In addition, guides on using them is easily available in this forum.

If you intend to give away your encodings or if you intend
to lent it out to your friends I would suggest that you use
mp3 compression at 128 kbits/s since most of them will meet no
        problems with playing your creations

If you intend to create divx files for your private use only
        I would choose ogg.

there is an excellent guide on that on
        Uncas homepage

if you intend to create them that they can be played
on a standalone divx player like Kiss DP-450,
        choose mp3 as audiocompression format

        good luck
