the settings are all default...it captures at dv quality at 25 megs per second and whether i use windows movie maker of studio pinaccle 8 it does'nt even look like vhs quality when its played back fullscreen....on like tv commercials and stuff when people burn their home movies on dvd it looks like actual dvd quality...really sharp....i dont know why i can't get it that clear and crisp...Comment

Not familiar with DV capture...but an old pro on the Dazzle site was not to thrilled with Pinnacle. He recommended ULead VS7. Capture straight thru the firewire as DV and VS7 converts it to MPEG on the fly...all in digital format. He said quality is far superior. You can download a 30 day trial version.Comment

i've been using pinnacle 8.5 myself capturing via firewire and the results were fine.
so statements that pinnacle is less good than ulead are simply not true.
maybe you will be able to achieve better results with another software - i'll keep my fingers crossed for you.
but it must be a matter of using the software not of its capabilities.Comment
