cutting using virtual dub

i needed to cut a divx movie file in 2 so i decided to use virtual dub. when i loaded the file into vdub a message appeared in a window titled VBR Audio Stream Detected:

VirtualDub has detected an improper VBR audio encoding and will rewrite the audio header with standard CBR values. This may introduce up to 19122ms of skew from the video stream

I thought nothing of the message and proceeded to cut the file in half. However when I played back the cut file the audio was behind the video by about 10 seconds. Therefore I proceeded to follow the instructions in the following url

However my B-A value is 0 and the guidelines did not work. What do I do???

Use either NanDub or VirtualDubMOD (different than VirtualDub) to cut .AVIs containing Variable Bitrate ("VBR") audiostreams...

Do you have a link to a tutorial on how to cut files with VirtualDubMOD?

you will have to select the part that you want to save as one part/half of your movie and then use file => save as

Just a little more detailed explanation

Cutting with VirtualDub (or any of its variants)


1)Load your original (DivX-compressed or otherwise) .AVI into VirtualDub
2) Set BOTH "Video" and "Audio" to "Direct Stream Copying"
3) Move slider to the starting point of the scene you wish to delete
4) From the "Edit" dropdown menu, select "Go to next keyframe"
5) From the "Edit" dropdown menu, select "Set Selection Start"
6) Move slider to the ending point of the scene you wish to delete
7) From the "Edit" dropdown menu, select "Go to next keyframe"
8) From the "Edit" dropdown menu, select "Set Selection End'
9) From the "Edit" dropdown menu, select "Delete frames"
10) Save with a new filename

the new virtualdub mod does not have any audio dropdown menue anymore!!!

I'm well aware of the fact that audio attributes are under the "Streams" dropdown menu in VirtualDubMOD. I just haven't decided how to incorporate the appropriate verbiage in this "canned" response.

I believe the lack of reference to "Streams" has brought rise to additional Q&A from one only poster who has received this response. But I guess I should stop being so lazy and update it ;>}

i have tried it using vdMOD, but the audio is still behind the video???

A) If the difference between audio and video is constant throughout the video:

Load the file into VirtualDubMod, or NanDub.
Set BOTH "Video"(VirtualDubMod and NanDub) and "Audio" (NanDub only - VirtualDubMOD>"Streams>"Stream list) to "Direct Stream Copy".
From the "Audio" dropdown menu, select "Interleaving" (For VIrtualDubMOD, rightclick on the listed audiostream and then select "Interleaving")
Under "Audio skew correction", set an appropriate number of milleseconds (positive or negative) in the box labelled "Delay audio track by"
Save with a new filename

B) If the difference increases as the movie plays:

From under the "Video" dropdown menu, select framerate - and select "Change so video and audio durations match"

i have decided to cut the svcd with tmpgenc. is there any difference between cutting avi and cutting mpeg e.g. will cutting avi with vdub result in better quality...
