questions about vob and mpegs:)

ok first off don't flame me..... I am new to this but just a bit tired of reading 20,000 articals.

I went to vcdhelp.com and followed the instructions with nero burner to copy a dvd. well it did not work, I have a pioneer a03.

so if i take the vob files off with smart ripper then burn them on a dvd would that work?

then if I am capturing video from my tv in mpeg 2 i think will that work in my home dvd player?
