    In your opinon....

    All,

In your opinon what is the best program for capturing, editing, and saving your home movies to DVD (from Sony DV handycam)?

I have been using Windows Movie Maker and saving my movies to AVI. But I would like to use better software which "does it all".

I am downloading a trial version of Pinnacle Studio 9, any thoughts?

I have also been reading about Adobe Premier.

    Cheers.

Thanks. Well I started using it tonight for the first time. I captured the video. Made a movie on the timeline and then tried saving as DVD.

After about an hour and a half of Pinnacle rendering an 18minute movie (is this normal?) it said copying to disk and then after about 5min it said there was a problem writing to the disk and the process failed?

I will try again with a smaller file to see if I get this everytime.

The software does seem easy to use though.

The render time is not unusual. It depends VERY much on your processor speed, and also on the quality of the movie you make. To save yourself some time from these errors it may be easier to have pinnacle output these files to the hard drive in DVD format then burn them with Nero. This will save you from having to recode the video every time. The coded video is probably already saved on your hard drive though.

          Thanks, I will try this.

The other annoying thing I have found is I can't open previously captured AVI files with Pinnacle???

I am worried that the video I am capturing with the trial version of Pinnacle won't be readable by other editors.

          This is getting very confussing

I wish there was just one program that would do everything.

The files you capture should be readable by most programs if you are capturing in mpg or avi format.
