but does anyone know of a compression program such as autoGK, where you can insert were you want to put specific keyframes?
This may seem pretty out there

Compression of what into what?
TMPGenc lets you put key frames where you want them. It encodes avi into various things (mpeg2 usually).

OK now I really don't understand! DVD->AVI, what exactly do you mean? AVI isn't a format, it's just a "package" with whatever format in it, usually people abuse the term to say "DV" format. Is that what you mean? In that case, it's not compressing, it's decompressing if anything! (DV format is much bigger than MPEG2).
If it's DV, then there's no notion of key frame as far as I know). Key frames only exist in MPEG if I'm not mistaken...
Why exactly are you trying to do that?

OK I understand now. Follow setarip's link. TMPGenc isn't for you then...
