Are you processing the sound as well during the encoding? If so, try disabling it and see how it goes.
Otherwise, a full Windows installation should cure it, if you're willing to do so. That is also provided you properly do the reinstallation.Comment

Well, ... the hanging occurs when decoding with tmpgenc as well as encoding with virtualdub. I will to encode without the sound and see how it goes... I have reinstalled windows several times and the problem is still there... nothing seems to cure it...Comment

This is obviously a hardware/drivers problem, try going into your bios and try some less aggressive settings, if your memory cas latency is set to 2 switch it to 3.
And could you state system configuration / drivers / OS.Donate your idle CPU time for something usefull.

Nope... it still hangs, just rebooted the pc for the millionth time, changed the cas settings as well, should try again...
I have a P4 1,4ghz, a Nvidia graphics card with the newest drivers installed, the mb is a Legend Platinix 4x from QDI, also with the newest drivers and bios installed. The soundboard is an onboard Intel 82801BA, also with the newest drivers, had a SB Live card installed before but tried with the onboard instead. I have two network cards, but i don't think they could have anything to do with it? I have found an old PCI S3 graphics card wich i will try, and see if its the graphics card that is causing the problems...Comment

If possible try removing some of the ram blocks, check if it works, swap the blocks, and check again. That way we can see if one of the blocks are causing problems. But remember that RD-RAM must be used in pairs.
Or you could try running the computer with the case open, this should keep the ram blocks cooler.Last edited by khp; 2 Apr 2002, 04:54 AM.Donate your idle CPU time for something usefull.
