problem with flaskmpeg cuts off at 10 percent

I'm trying to take ~15 minutes of mpeg 2 dvd source, ntsc 29.97 720x480 approx 421mb, and convert it to divx using flaskmpeg, and every single time it drops out right around 10% without any error message or anything. I've tried different codecs like xvid and gotten the same result.

I've tried loading the vobs (flask will autodetect a series of vobs) and I've tried using a .mpg file that I concatonated myself (copy /b video1_1.vob+video1_2.vob outputfile.mpg) and I have the same problem -- just drops out without a word. What am I doing wrong. Or is there another, better free program I could use to do this?

forget about flask and use something decent

i used DVX when i was converting to avi
DVX will let you select the frame range to convert to avi and uses much better tools than flask (like virtualdub + besweet)

I actually got the job done with virtualdub mpeg2, and I was very pleased with the speed (about 40fps).

However, the problem with that program was my only options for audio are 1) no audio, 2) audio from an external file, or 3) leave audio as it is. I was cool with leaving the audio as ac3 for this particular job -- but in the future, I may need to convert audio for some reason. And having to strip the audio out and dump it back in is just dumb.

Are gordian knot or dvx free? Free is the main thing I look for in my software...

You might want to look at virtualdubmod, it has more audio options. GK and DVX are both free, DVX requires the .NET framework so I've never checked it out.
