Spybot and Trend both fell in the middle. I'm currently using Microsoft's Antispyware beta which supposedly finds about 60% but does better and preventing future attacks.
Is subscribe to PCWORLD, but I don't trust them all the time. It seems that their reviews are 'influenced' somehow or they just haven't done enough research.

Yea, Is subscribed too for the last 2 years... don't really get what you're saying. Never really got that 'influenced' any more than anyone else.
But, I "don't trust" anyone 100% either. Just a point of reference.

i use spy bot too ( so another vote), with ad ware and spyware blaster, this last one doesnt delete spywares, but block them, so its an additional protection together with spybot.its like a double shield .your pc will become a bunker with that
Hi, I use Adaware (which I just downloaded a new version of for the in-laws new computer) NO problem with needing to pay. Be sure you download the correct freeware version.
I also use Spybot and Spyware Blaster. I don't really travel to many crazy sites, and that is a huge variable in this quest to stop spyware. But ... one thing I didn't see mentioned and I believe is important. Change Browsers from Internet Explorer to Netscape or Mozilla Firefox.
No, I use windows, but I have found that Mozilla especially blocks things like sites diverting you to other web addresses either initially, say if you did a google search, or even after you are actually on a website when you click a link once on a site. A message pops up from Mozilla saying... Firefox has blocked this request because you are being diverted to .. blah blah ...NICE! For me it is proving to be just an additional line of defense.
btw, lavasoft (the makers of ad-aware) had released their own firewall software a couple of days ago, you may want to check it out http://www.lavasoft.com
AFAIK its almost the same as 'agnitum outpost firewall', which is quite easily my choice of firewall...
