        the file(s) was what format?
        had it been converted - if so how?

        you can burn an mp4 to dvd in file/iso mode and this file of course wont play on hardly any player - that's what i'm driving at

        ++++++++++

        any player not recognising the content/format on the media would show something like: unknown disc/no disc

        it pretty much looks like your material on the media is NOT dvd compliant

              there's no good reason why windows wouldnt read the disc but then we dont know how exactly you burned it

              avi MAY be played on your standalone player (we are talking about your standalone player or do you want to play the files on your pc?) in case that standalone player is capable of divx/xvid/mpeg-4 playback

              if the player does NOT support these files you will have to convert them to vc/svcd/dvd format

              avi2dvd could be one possible solution

                  try the boards search engine on "avi2dvd"
                  you will find guides and threads
