    Windows MCE 2005 Help

Well i recently bought this computer off ebay and it said it had MCE 2005 (media center edition) and when i go to system information it says version 2002. So is this mce 2005 or mce 2002?

    Regards

If the system info says it is 2002 then it is 2002

Your MCE should be version 2005 even though it says 2002. You can check by going to the media center screen and click on 'About Media Center', there it should say 'version' I think, click on that and it should show as software version 2005. Cheers

Sounds as though you have been bamboozled. Strange thing is I have heard several stories of the exact same switch being made, not necessarily from ebay, but from retailers.

Go into Media Center and then go to the following:

Settings > General > About Media Center > Software Version

Verify version number, should be in format of 5.1.2xxx.xxxx.

Furiousg gives a better detailed step by step and you should find that yours says the version number and that it is the '2005' one.

Under 'My Computer- Properties' it describes the 2002 Windows XP Pro Media Center Edition 'operating system'
              and
Under Media Centers' settings it describes the 2005 Media Center Software

              Check out the screenshots// Cheers

I believe Media Centre is basically an upgraded Xp Pro, so like Mike said the operating system is still the same version, but the Media Center functions have updated ( Makes it wasy easier to connect my Xbox to my PC )
