    Firmware Question

I recently has a problem with writing speed using Imation blank Cd's. I was using Nero 6 software and found that 8x burning was not being read by my Marantz player. Other players (stand alone and portables) worked fine. When I lowered it to 4x everything was fine with the Marantz. Since I had never upgraded the firmware, I was wondering if this could be the problem with the drive? Below are the two drives (98SE), CD-Rom and CD-RW. They both are listed in my signature. I also have a site mentioned in some of the other postings that has the firmware listed.

NEC would be the 3.43 or 3.43v3a? The LG would be 1.07? What is OEM?
Any guides or advice on how to install? I'm a bit worried. A year ago I had a major HD (98se)failure due to a patch installed to upgrade to a USB 2.0 card for my external Maxtor 250 HD from MAJOR GEEKS. Bad advice from a tech. forum site. Not this site.

In 5 years I never had to flash a cd-burner firmware and burned from 8x up to
32x over the last few years. I went thru several burners. I did flash a couple of combo drives and dvd-rom's.

sure the lg fimware's not 1.04?
they usually go in exact numerical order not 1.4 to 1.08

            Sorry Chewy,
You are correct 1.04. However, any idea about the playback problem at 8x and not 4x.
            Thanks,

poor media, imation's probably following memorex down the road
to eternal durnation, I was doing some professional work, back a few years and had burned hundreds of cd's, no coasters, then all of a sudden 2-3 in a row, went to imation, tdk and sony.

                Chewy,

I thought it might be the media. I also haven't burned Cd's in a long time and the 100 pack, half gone by now, was bought......? Sooooo......I'll try Sony!

It's good that Sony thinks we all use their Cd's and DVDs as coaster. Right?

                AS always, thank you.
