One of the largest distribution centers in the Md west is not only in my state but its less then 1 mile from my home.
Although I never get any movies shipped from that one my movies come from CA. MI and IL go figure.Comment

Wow that's just wrong. The Block Buster distribution center is a 6-8 hour drive from here and the Netfilx distribution center is a 1-2 hour drive from where I live. They both get my picks to me the day after it's shipped. If that was me and the distribution center was a mile away and I was getting a turn out like yours one would think they had a strong case for throttlingLast edited by BR7; 7 Jan 2007, 07:02 AM.Comment

When I talk to the store manager he always comes back with well when you turn in 3 you can take 3 out of the store. The problem there is the store took most of the dvd's off the shelf to use for the online and then I cant seem to get the ones from our store online. I was talking to one of the other girls that works there and she told me that most of the dvd's that people are turning in are from IL or CA.
And that most of the DVD's that this store ships is to states other then our own, there is a HUGE why is that?
BB thinks since they let you take 3 from the store when you return 3 that keeps them safe from the "throttling " issue.Comment

@ photo angel2004,
I am with you on this one, I would much rather have the DVD then to download it, there are still a lot of people out their that have a dial-up connection, like myself, and download is just close to impossible.
He** an 86mb download file for my Acronis update takes 6 to 8 hours if I can keep the connection, and the connection is tweaked to stay connected at the highest speed possible on copper lines.Comment

I dont think their stament is true that downloads are taking away from the business.
Not that many people really do that compaired to the amount of people that rent dvd's.
Lets face it we have all seen the posts and thread where people had downloaded a movie and cant play it or burn it.
I really think they are nuts if they think downloads will take anything away from the business.Comment

BAck in 2004 when BB started online they had 10 distribution centers, then 23, the biggest list I could find was 30.
My local PO tells me that they can get mail to anyplace in the continental US in 3 days
Here is the list of distribution centers that I could find online. I don't know how old it is but here it is anyway.
Atlanta. GA
Baton Rouge, LA
Charlotte, NC
Chicago, IL
Cleveland, OH
Dallas, TX
Denver, CO
Edison, NJ
Flushing, NY
Houston, TX
Gaithersburg, MD
Kansa City, MO
Lansing, MI
Las Vegas, NV
Louisville, KY
Miami, FL
Minneapolis, MN
Philadelphia, PA
Phoenix, AZ
Pittsburgh, PA
Portland, OR
Rochester, NY
Sacramento, CA
Saint Louis, MO
San Jose, CA
Santa Ana, CA
Seattle, WA
Stamford, CT
Tampa, FL
Worcester, MA
Blockbuster says about 70% of the country will receive DVDs within one business day from these distribution centers, with two-day service nearly everywhere else. (Delivery to Hawaii and Alaska may take longer.)
If it is taking a week to receive a DVD that was shipped you can bet it is the fault of the USPS and not NF, BB, Intelliflix or whoever mails it.Not registered Go here and click register to join the Digital Digest Forums

BB doesnt ship them right away. they wait 3 to 4 day before sending them. Even though they are turned in at the store.
At least thats the way its working in WI.
Waukesha, WI should be on that list as well but they werent a online dis. till 2006Comment

If you turn them in on a Friday it could take that long after you turn them in to have BB ship the next ones. They don't ship on the weekend and usually ship the day after theysee they are checked in at the store . So if you turn in on a Friday, they won't see it until Monday, then probably ship by Tuesday and you might not get it until Thursday or Friday depending on where it is coming from. All distribution centers don't carry every title. Not registered Go here and click register to join the Digital Digest Forums

Looks like NF is having some worries about BB's new service:
BB took a number of analysts by surprise Wednesday when it revealed that it picked up 700,000 online subscribers in the fourth quarter, after relatively modest online customer growth during the first nine months of 2006.

Netflix Stock Sinks, Analyst Sees Step-Up in Promotions to Fend of Blockbuster
NEW YORK (AP) -- Shares of Netflix Inc. sank Thursday after an analyst wrote that competition from Blockbuster Inc. was pushing the online DVD rental service to step up profit-eating promotions.
The Los Gatos, Calif.-based company's stock fell $1.03, or 3.7 percent, to $25.62 in early afternoon trading on the Nasdaq, giving back gains from the previous session.
Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter wrote in a note to investors that Netflix "has become increasingly promotional," cutting prices of its lowest-cost plan in the face of increased competition from Blockbuster Inc., the nation's biggest in-store video rental chain.
On Wednesday, Blockbuster announced it ended 2006 with 2.2 million online rental customers, thanks to its Total Access program, which lets customers rent DVDs on the Web, then return them in stores.
"Netflix is likely testing ever-lower pricing in order to maintain subscriber growth," Pachter wrote, noting that the company slashed its bottom-tier subscription plan from $5.99 per month to $4.99, and started offering one-month free trials, up from two-week free trials.
The analyst maintained a "Sell" rating and $15 price target on the stock, implying a 43.6 percent decline from its closing price Wednesday of $26.61 on the Nasdaq.
He added that Netflix is approaching market saturation for its rental service, and wrote that the company will need to control costs and limit subscriber turnover to stay profitable.
"We continue to be skeptical about the Netflix business model and do not believe that the company will ever approach its long-term goal of 20 million subscribers," Pachter wrote.
Shares of Blockbuster added 7 cents to $5.70 in midday trading on the New York Stock Exchange. Earlier in the session the stock hit a new 52-week high of $5.79 -- its second new peak in as many days.Comment

BB has resources that NF can't match with the B&M stores. And BB increased traffic into it's stores with Total Access. I wonder how much more popcorn, ice cream and stuff they might be sellingNot registered Go here and click register to join the Digital Digest Forums
