Buggers sicknesses

I’ve read a few posts recently and become so sick of those buggers sicknesses. Some of our forum members asked questions about how to back up and burn DVDs or movies. When their questions were answered satisfactorily, they then stated that their DVDs were rented or borrowed and the movies were downloaded from internet. I just wish that our forum should have a rule which requires any member who wants to ask question and get help about backing up movies, CD or DVD materials, or software has to declare that these are what he or she owns, homemade movies, not rented, borrowed, or downloaded from internet illegally. If the member doesn’t want to declare that, he or she will not get support. No exception. IMHO, it is nice to have this rule because:

1- When the question is asked, we want to assist but still hesitate to do so because we don’t know for sure where the material exactly comes from

2- By declaring the material ownership, the member who asks the question shows that he or she has read and understood our forum rules

3- Help deter or turn away those ugly buggers from contaminating our forum and let them know that our forum never tolerates piracy

splendid vision, but can't see such a rule implemented. anyone asked where it was recieved naturally will say they bought it. everyone will lie anyway. the way it works now i think is a good system, when they cross the line, we close the thread.

I agree with Lt, it's a great idea Benbryant but people would just claim ownership if they really did buy or if it came from the local blockbusters or the neighbor. What always astounds me is that they will blatently tell you it is rented or borrowed right off the bat alot of times. Obviously they have either not read the rules or just simply choose to ignore them. I have several employees like that!

Maybe just arrogant to believe the rules don't refer to them. Rules, what rules, we don't need no stinking rules!

I haven't been here real long but long enough to know that there are alot of people, like Benbryant, you, and many others who are quite knowledged and are very helpful. Often having the patience of saints with people and going the extra mile. I can understand the frustration when you find out the people you are helping are "pirates" and many of them also thankless for the help they receive. Hopefully it makes it a little better when you help out a legitimate poster and they "get it" and thank you for your effort.

I think that benbryant's idea is great, yes people may lie about if they own a dvd or not but at least they would no longer say I rented. or I borrowed it from a friend, or I downloaded it. This way they KNOW they cant.

Too many people dont read the rules. LOL

Then again some people just dont care and may say they are rented anyways.

We can ALL say one thing or another on this forum but we dont have a clue as to what people are really doing am afraid you just have to take people on face value if people are openly admiting that they are backing up rental dvds and so on then just ban them off the site

Too many people dont read the rules. LOL

The rules are here to protect (and to preserve) the forum. Laws may vary from country to country. What is legal elsewhere may be illegal somewhere else!

Sometimes, a few minutes wasted is time well spent. Members and non-members alike should take the time to read the rules! It will make a lot less closed threads. Nothing is more frustrating than searching for something and you get to a thread and you find it locked!

the downloaded part is so complex to understand, have reread it after
miscalling a few plays, can of worms compared to the rental problem

We see the same at www.imgburn.com ours is easier due to the bosses previous difficulties - we just can't discuss it at all !!

That said I think this forum operates a sensible system - give em the rope and the idiots will hang themselves !
