    Too big screen, help needed.

    Hello everyone!

I am new to all this and I am unsure if this is in the right section, please do forgive me if it's not.

Well, I have successfully burnt 4 .avi episodes onto a DVD-RW and I can play it but unfortunately the screen is well, too big and I can not see the subtitles fully.

This is troubling me very much considering the language speaking in is japanese and my japanese is not very good, so not seeing subtitles is a big downside for me.

What I'm basically wondering, is if there is anyway to like resize the resolution or such so that one can see the subtitles in the movie, is DVD Shrink capable of this? If so, could you please guide me step by step? I am very new in this area, please forgive me.

    Thanks,
    Sepharius

Are you talking about your pc? If so, what resolution is it set at?
What program are you using to view it?

      Welcome to the forum,

To change res. settings right click on your desktop/ properties/settings

You can change the resolution there the higher the res. the smaller the screen windows will be.

Ah, no. I don't mean the computer, I am referring to my TV, dvd player. When playing the burnt disc on it the screen is too big and you can't view the subtitles nor everything in the background.

Is your TV wide screen or standard screen?

Now is the dvd in wide screen or standard screen?

I believe the TV is widescreen, as for the DVD I don't know, 16:9?

              You dont know???

do you know what wide screen and standard mean with tv's and dvd's?

if the tv and dvd are both wide screen there shouldnt be a problem.

Is this a home made movie or should I say home added the english?

Ok .avi isnt going to play on a stand alone player on a TV. UNLess you have converted the files to a compatable DVD files.

If that is what you did. We cant help you with out knowing:

                How you converted this video
                what programs you used

We need a lot more detail and information to be able to help you. There are just too many possiblities here.

Ah please forgive me, I am not good at this technical stuff.
I merely used nero and burnt 4 .avi episodes on a DVD-RW, I managed to play it but the screen was too big so that the subtitles went down the screen.

I take it you have to convert them first?
I believe I did not do so, could you please explain to me how I could convert the files to dvd compatible files or provide me with links?

                  Thanks again,
                  Seph

if you are using a divx player it shouldn't need any conversion generally. could it be PAL/NTSC issue? how does the disc play on another divx player, the pc?

Ok I nero will burn .avi to a dvd but that isnt going to be compatable on a stand alone DVD player that plays on a TV.

What are you using to play this with on a tv.

Check the disc you burned did nero convert the files at all?
If so what file format is it. ?

I could be wrong I on this but I have never seen a dvd player that can play a .avi unless this is something new in dvd players and what they will play.

I know most will play VCD's wich are Video Cd's in meg or mpeg, or mpeg2 format.

                        @ LT.
Ah, I think I am being misunderstood.
I do not wish to play these files on the computer, I want to burn them on a DVD then play that DVD on a DVD player and watch the tv.

Hehe, I am sorry if my english is hard to understand, I am from Sweden after all.

                        @ Photo
Hmm, I think it converted the .avi files.
I got a VIDEO_TS folder now with files that has .vob, .ifo and .bup extensions

What the Lt. is saying is will it play correct on your pc. We know you dont want to watch it on your pc but this is a test to see if it will play on your pc and if it does does it play the way you want it to or not.
