It's alright, think I got it, the randomizing feature.

I will have to wait until the weekend to play the videos on my big speakers to really know how effective this is and will get back to you on Sunday, I looked and saw the volume settings you referred to, is there anything else I am supposed to do except for installing ffdshow, any particular settings anywhere?Comment

Problems, everytime I open PMC now and double-click on any song to start the playlist, the weirdest thing I have ever seen on a pc starts happening, 3/4 of the entire pc screen goes black, mpc disappears and the blue portion that's left on the top of the monitor shows all icons racing from right to left and I can stop this by pressing any key so I have to manually shut down [pressing the power button] and then start the same way, I did this 3 times in a row.
Switched back to VLC and it is working fine so don't know what to make of this, I had played 5 videos with mpc immediately before this problem occured and it looked like the volume was constant so it appeared to be working the way I want.
What do I have to do to test ffdshow with vlc now as we had originally planned?Comment

Thanks, did it, you obviously know a lot about all of these types of stuff, I have posted for help with VLC's normalization feature here on their forum
but one thing still confuses me here, if ffdshow is designed to make all of my videos play at one contant volume, why then do I need to use the normalization feature of any video player? Is this just for added help for ffdshow?Comment

your original post made me think the player was directshow based (as most players are, including wmp and MPC to some extent). ffdshow will handle most formats for them.
VLC, on the other hand, has all internal filters (actually same code as ffdshow; ffmpeg/libavcodec), and does not need/use any external codecs. guess we can blame it on bad communication, partly your fault because you didn't specify which media player you were using, partly mine cause i didn't ask. my excuse is english is my 2nd languageLast edited by anonymez; 7 Jul 2006, 08:31 PM.Comment

Yeah, I tend to leave out important info in my original threads, not on purpose of course but I would like to think that I will get better at it, sorry for not mentioning about the player in the beginning, I would have never known that English is not your native language if you hadn't told me.
So if I understand correctly what you've written here then I do NOT need the ffdshow so I can/should delete it, correct? I don't like keeping things on my pc which I don't need which is why I am asking.Comment

Well, that did not work at all! Had to keep adjusting the volume for every video. I have a couple of issues with these videos and will create a separate thread for each issue. So now back to my immediate problem, all of the videos have different recording levels and some were recorded very low, what are my best options here? Is there some software like mp3gain which will normalize the audio of these videos?Comment

lol i don't use VLC so i'm not sure what went wrong there... but MPC/ffdshow certainly does work
