    Avi help required!

    Hi,

At the moment I simply cannot play avi. files on my computer. I had Windows Media Player 7 and that wouldn't do it. I have just installed Quicktime 5 (I have Direct X 8.1 and DivX 3.11) but each time I try to open an avi it says it cannot do it "as it cannot find the appropriate decompresser". I even tried converting the avi's to mpeg's but it wouldn't do this as it can't open the avi's in the first place!

    Please help if possible.

Mike <- tearing his hair out.

there are more codecs than the hacked divx3 version

divx4 or 5 and ms v1,2 and 3 might also be required (apart from rare kristall or ap stuff)

      Thanks for the response

Just about to get divx 5 now. What are ms, v1,2,3? And where can I download these?

Also, I'm seeing in a lot of places that the requirements to get the files to work is Windows Media Player 6.4 - does that mean that updated versions of this have problems?

On the Microsoft site it only has version 7 to download, as far as I can see anyway.

      Thanks again.
