my guess is that most freeware won't have all the built-in or add-on essentials to clean-up the scratches/bops/hisses etc encountered.
i use "sound forge" with some add-ons. it works like a dream & really
polishes-up those old scratched vinyls. sadly, it's not freeware & it wasn't cheap. it also burns to cd, but i've never used that feature.
it's packed with so many other features, you'll love it (once you learn how to use it).
does your turntable have a built-in amp ? you may need it if you're going directly from turntable to pc sound card (line in).
I just did a google search for musicmatch 7.5.
Try it, appears downloads are available.
BTW, i have MM 9.0, which works fine for me to make mp3 formats.
Also, as i understand from a friend whose into what you want to do, finding an amplified turntable these days can be a chore. Also, he mentioned a program called Goldwave. Dont know much about this stuff, so above is secondhand info.
Goldwave works excellent! I have used it for years. I have purchased it, but the shareware version seems to go on working forever w/o a problem. Will record to virtually any file format.
I find it easy to use, very intuitave.

Goldwave will do that if you play with the filters, etc. It is kind of a long process, esp. if you have really "scratchy" records!
For "noisy" recordings, I have used Roxio ESCD, as it has sound cleaning capabilities; however, I know that most guys on here do not like "Poxio"!

A most versitle program indeed. I like its zoom capability, allowing to focus right in to the "click" spot and very effectively remove it.
Since a majority of the "clicks" and "pops" are extremely narrow pulses in the signal, removing them has little to no effect on the sound at normal speed, as if the click or pops were never there to begin with!
I would check out what Paglamon said, I have Nero 6 Ultra and it has a little icon for getting LP's to your hard drive and then ultimatly burning them to CD or converting to a format of your choice.
vw,
I have Nero 6 ultra, but could not find the little icon for LP's. Which particular nero program is it, and where can i find icon. Is it in start smart? Thanks.
