    Video playback problems

I had to format my hard drive and reinstall everything. Now I have a problem with video playback I hope someone can help me with. Operating system is XP Media Center. When I try to play video in Media Center or Nero showtime I get audio but no video. I have the same problem with playback in Internet Explorer and Firefox. At first I thought is was a codec problem and reinstalled DivX and XP codec pack and still have the problem. I don't think it is the codec because if I put another window over the video and then go pack to the player, I see video for about a second or two and then it goes blank again. Everything plays fine in media center, but that doesn't help with online clips.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried Media Player Classic or VLC Media Player.

Soup, I haven't tried either of those, I'll check them out.

photo_angel2004, I've tried AVI, WMV, and dvd files with the same results. Everything plays fine from Media Center and I had no problems before I redid the hard drive.

sounds like a driver/overlay mixer issue. update graphics card's drivers

anonymez, It looks like I have the most current drivers for my video card.

doctorhardware, I have a Dell XPS and I did reinstall the drivers and programs that came with it. I've also gone out and updated everything.

I was messing around with settings and I got AVI and MPG files to show video, but DVD VOB files are still audio only.

in media center? or a software player?

in your first post, you state:

When I try to play video in Media Center or Nero showtime I get audio but no video
                then

Everything plays fine in media center, but that doesn't help with online clips
youll need to be a little more clearer on what works and what doesn't. which graphics card? try using downgrading drivers to the previous version. ensure directx is up to date.

                  Fropa,
Also a quick note check the device manager and make sure that there is no problems with your drivers. Dell is notorious for not giving the correct drivers with the restore disks.
