what's a good change from 4:3 (720x544) to 16:9 (???) ?

i'm not sure what i should use to resize this 4:3 movie to 16:9. any ideas? is it okay to do it manually or do i need a certain size? i came up with: 820x476. looks widescreen to me.

I really dont think that is even possible.

Movies that are formated to 4:3 have the sides more or less clipped off to fit that screen.

So to make a 4:3 to a wide screen you would have to add video images you do not have.


To make a wide screen into a standard screen is one thing and even that doesnt work all that well.

Now if you do convert a 4:3 to 16:9 then the coder will simply stretch the image. which should provide a distorted image. Still it is better to check the original file's aspect ratio [in decimal, using sw like GSpot] before taking any final decision.

Then you need to take a look at DVD Rebuilder there is no stretching or distorting . All though the picture below don't show it that is one of the 4:3 I converted to 16:9.And this is from MPC while I was playing the movie

Will DVD Rebuilder convert from wide to standard then as well?

That is something I would like to be able to do since my big screen is standard and MOST DVD's now are Wide screen.

And is there a guide written some place on how to do it?

Not that I know of.But from what I have been reading it seems if you try and convert 16:9 to 4:3 it will look stretched

Sure
You go to options and and open up AVS Expert options then open Convert from LB 4:3 to 19:9. From there you select the main movie VTS you want to convert to 16:9.Dont select apply to all cause it will do everything on the dvd. In the example below if I wanted to convert this movie I would select VTS 05 & 06 because it is a series DVD and it has two 1 hour shows on it.Hope this helps

I know that but what he was suggesting it would ruin the quality of the movie.I guess what I was getting at was it don't look bad and you can't notice anything was done so I'm sorry for not being more clear
