    NVU & Other Publishing Problems

I'm using the NVU to build my web site, well, of course I am because that's what NVU is for. Lol. Anyway, when I want to publish, after I've clicked on Publish and get to the bit where I fill things out, every time I click on Select Directory nothing happens. It never lets me choose what folder I want to publish to in my web space. I tried another way and went to the folder in my webpace and Copied & Pasted the address into the Publish Page and it had an error.

This web building thing is so annoying at times. Microsoft Frontpage's tool Publish Web is always greyed out so I can't publish with that, Dreamweaver never allowed me to publish due to errors and other charades and when I tried to add my GeoCities account into My Network Places that never allows me. When I add my FTP address through My Network Places, I type ftp://ftp.geocities.com (but it's not underlined in there). I got my GeoCities added in there before and it worked fine. I can't remember why I deleted it from there ages ago. Anyway, when I tried to re-add it, as soon as I typed the letter f my GeoCities FTP address revealed itself undernealth where my PC remembered it from the last time. I clicked on it to add it to save writing it again and it failed, I typed it from stratch and it failed again. I can't understand why it worked ages ago and it fails now. I did ask about this a few days ago in another part of the forum but so far nobody responded. The images of the error can be found here. I understand we can only respond to anyone if we know a suggestion or solution but I thought somebody might know the solution to this one about My Network Places. Apart from that, the other issue that I asked about with NVU is strange and I hope somebody can help on that. I used to use Serif Web Plus 7 and I can publish with that but it requires resizing the images and that's too much hassle if a gallery is involved and when I save a project with that, a few days later the images disappear and they are replaced with a white border with a white cross and it means re-creating the project. The things I have to go through to publish a web site...

    Many thanks.

    Darren.

    hello dazuk1972,

it pretty much looks like you will have to type in the ENTIRE path to YOUR "webspace"

in other words: add something like \dazukswebspace\ to the existing ftp://ftp.geocities.com

That's what I tried but it triggered an error. What I did was, I opened an empty folder in my web space to where I want to upload to and I went to Properties and Copied and Pasted the address in the destination section. That was when it failed.

      Many thanks.

        - do you (still) have read and write access to your ftp space?
        - do ftp connections to other places work with the same routine?
        - did you try an ftp client or accessing the ftp space via a webbrowser?
        - are you sure no firewall is blocking you?

Many thanks for the help. I did test this 'n' that but nothing was displaced from what I saw.

I went to download.com and looked for a FTP program and I found Core FTP LE that's Freeware. It's very easy to use as well. All I have to do is enter my FTP address, my user name and password and click on Connect. After that my files and folders appear in a small section on the left-hand side that are in My Documents and what's already in my web space appears in a small section on the right-hand side. All I have to do is drag a folder from the left-hand side to the right and it uploads. That's how easy it is when an FTP is set-up through My Network Places but I believe Microsoft's upgrades corrupted things through there that's why I couldn't get things going through there anymore the way I used to. Normally I can upload web pages with no problem. I found out the Select Directory icon in NVU has never worked, that was confirmed yesterday and I don't know why Microsoft Front Page has a Publish option that's always greyed out. Anyway, I found a method that seems to be fine.

Many thanks again for your help of suggestions.

          Darren.

darren, have you tried to copy another file from your pc to your ftp space with this diferent ftp client in order to make sure you are still able to write files onto that webspace?

I'm still trying to figure out whether or not your ftp space still works the way you want it to.
