Turn PC off, reseat the sound card in the PCI slot then turn PC back on, reinstall the drivers.
That failing, turn PC off and try a different PCI slot and reboot.

probably stupid question but to reinstall the drivers do I need software and I am assuming that sound card should be attached to where I plug in speakers? device manager says everything is working fine, do I still need to do the above?Last edited by dave654321; 9 Apr 2007, 01:42 PM.Comment

The device manager only indicates that the driver for your sound card is functional. It doesn't; however, show the hardware problem. Just make sure that you didn't mute audio by accident and also try to unplug and plug the speaker cable. Sometimes the problem can be cured by remove the sound card and clean the electrical contact with a new dollar bill

With most new Mobo's the sound chips are integrated so dont look for an slotted sound card, if the chips have gone bad, you'll need a Mobo replacement/repair (depending on warranty)Comment
