DVD Rips too large for 700MB CD-R?

Is it possible to re-encode a divx DVD rip to be a smaller file size (to fit on 700MB CD-R) without losing quality? Or am I screwed? Thanks.

That was my first idea. I was hoping there was another way. Thanks anyway. I appreciate the reply.

What about trying one of that new 90 min. CDRs?
Dunno if it'll work with your cd-burner, though...

You could use those discs, provided your CD-burner is recent enough. There is a list that you can have a look at and determine whether your burner qualifies to use these discs: www.disc4you.com/news/99min.htm

Edit: The list is down. Anyone else has an alternative link?

I actually researched that a while back. My burner does support it. I just wanted to see if I could use 700MB CD-Rs instead. Here is a link to a site that sells 900MB CD-Rs and a list of compatible drives: http://www.medeainternational.com/info/90min.htm

Thanks again for the help. This is why there are forums
