Hi,
Thanks for the replies I cannot find any options to turn output on/off in my TV setting which is a Samsung the only mention in the instruction manual is that the internal mute option will need to be on! I have tried this with the same out come.
Sorry what is a RCA cable??? The only cable connecting the cinema system to the tv is the HDMI lead!SYSTEM:

It is a type of cable that is used to connect components,(like a casstte deck) to a stereo receiver/amplifier. You can get the cables at like a radio shack.Last edited by doctorhardware; 1 Jan 2008, 11:47 AM.Star Baby Girl, Born March,1997 Died June 30th 2007 6:35 PM.Comment

Your TV's HDMI connector is most likely for input only, not for output. If you want to hear the TV's sound through your sound system, there should be a separate audio output port on your TV (using RCA/composite cable - the yellow/red/white type connector). Some TVs also have an optical/SPDIF audio output port that you can connect to your sound system.
Note that at best, you will only get stereo/pro-logic audio. To get multi-channel audio, you need to connect the device straight to the receiver, as opposed to going through the TV.
For example, if you've connected a PS3 through HDMI to your TV, and then used the optical audio output to connect the TV to the receiver, you will only get stereo audio on the receiver. If you connected the optical audio output from the PS3 straight to your receiver, then you get multi-channel (5.1) audio.Comment
