mp4 conversion with DVDVideoSoft Free Studio

Hi guys. I haven't messed with video a lot since I converted all my VHS tapes to DVD so I haven't kept up. Suddenly I was confronted with an MP4 file, so after a search for conversion software I installed AVS. It took forever and in the end it left a watermark right in the center of the screen. The site said if I bought the paid version the watermark would not appear. I searched here and discovered SUPER. I demuxed my mp4 and remuxed to a variety of containers but always got an error message. So I searched again and found a piece of freeware that seems to do everything. It's called DVDVideoSoft Free Studio and seems to be able to convert anything to DVD (which can be demuxed/muxed into MPEG2 in TMPGenc) as well as pull vids off U-Tube and other sites with ease. One thing that bothers me is when you use it it takes you to the web where it pulls up the program to perform the task at hand...and it makes me think "who's pulling the strings and perhaps watching what you're downloading." This is a great free program that converts any format quickly, but it seems to be too good to be true. Anyone have any problems with it?

    MediaCoder acts very similar

maybe set your firewall to block it?

Setting the firewall too high might prevent it from functioning. I was just wondering if this might be a way for the MPAA or carnivore to snag illegals, not that I'd ever do anything like that

        1. i wouldnt worry too much - these tools have nothing to hide or otherwise it would already be well known

        2. i did not say: change the security level of your firewall
what i meant was: block this particula application - a decent fw will easily let you do so.

zone alarm throws me a couple of pop-ups which I allow. I just wanted to say that it's a great program, but seeing that I've changed my RM player and WMV player for more privacy options I had to give a heads up about this web-based converter. It works beautifully and has many uses, but I only use it for good clean fun. You might want to check it out. It's much more than a converter.

            Hi rsquirell,

Thanks for the share ... I am gonna play around with it. BTW, I will have to pick your brain later about your VHS conversions!

            G!

my knowledge is ancient. we had to actually had to invent things back in those days to get software to work. after i got everything done numerous vendors popped up with fool-proof HW/SW that does it all. but learning all those tricks taught me a lot about editing. it's fun taking snippets from this and that to create your own videos...
