What is the speed of your system and also the resolutions of the movies you are trying to play? A combination of low CPU speed and high video resolution will result in exactly what you are experiencing.
1. Run the desktop at 800x600 (or even 640x480) resolution at 16-bit colours
2. Run movie from Windows Media Player 6.4 (Run the command mplayer2.exe), then go to File -> Properties -> Advanced Tab -> [DivX Codec]. Slide the filter slider all the way to the left (disabling all filtering).
The steps should lower down the processing power required for playing the movie.
Either you have a seriously underpowered cpu (like mine )
However, I would suspect your player is at fault. In which case I would recommend you utilize GDIVX or WMP 6.4 for divx playback. Why do you have that filter, uninstall it if it is of no use.
