    SVCD in Windows

I might be being a complete idiot but I compress all my movies with Divx and run them through my tv out. The thing is a friend has just given me a movie on 3 svcd disks. I cannot seem to run these on my machine with any players. The error i get from wmp is the "module is not supported" It's an xp pro machine and i have windvd installed, is there a certain codec that I need to play back these disks???

    Pardon my ignorance

Use a DVD player software, such as WinDVD or PowerDVD.

Thanks that was a quick response

I forgot to mention before that I have tried to open the mpeg file in tmpeg and that said the file format was unsupported?? I thought you used it to create svcd and vcd?

I will try opening it in WINDVD

Probably your MPEG-2 trial period has expired. I'm not too sure about that as I have no SVCD handy to test it with at the moment.

i have exactly the same problem

In my case, i can watch the file with Win DVD without any problem

TMPEG shows the same failure as honks.

and in the windows MP i only can hear the sound but no picture will be displayed.

Yesterday i tried tu burn a SVCD with that file and it works well, too.
So the file is definatly a MPEG2 file.
but i don´t understand, why i can run that file with win DVD but not with the mediaplayer!!

Has anybody an explanation for this things!!

          thx

Yes, thats the same situation i have! I know I still have 20 days left on Tmpeg to use mpeg2 so im stumped. I burnt an svcd with 1 of the files and that was fine in windvd but wouldn't play in my standalone dvd player?? Anyone else have any idea how these may have been encoded??

            Thanks

                To Hunk

                1) Not all standalone DVD players support the SVCD format

                2) Many standalone players are "finicky" about which brands of CD-Rs they'll recognize

                  another problem??

After i had burnt the files as SVCD for my DVD Player, i tired to test it on my standalone player.
But the SCVD has only a length of about 39 minutes.

So my question is, if the file were to large for one SVCD, would nero recongnize that or would he burn as much as possible. So that there is an oppurunity, that the file is not complete??

Later this day i will try it with the Win DVD so that i can answer this question for myself, but i think this is a generally question, which is interesting for everyone??

                  so long

                    Setarip,

my dvd player probably cannot play svcd I know about the cdr problem as I spent ages finding a brand that would play in mine.

Anway I would still like to convert the mpeg2 (i assuming thats what it is?) to mpeg1 so I can play it in my dvd player. How would I go about this if I can't read the files into tmpeg? I could probably use nero to convert when I burn the vcd but I keep reading that nero is cack at doing this. Any ideas?
