    Dx50?

RealPlayer tells me it can't find anything compatible with DX50, so I download the standard version of DivX 5.0.2, and now it indicates it is playing, but no video or sound, any suggestions?

Use another player, like Windows Media Player 6.4 (Run mplayer2.exe from the Run command), PowerDivX, BSPlayer, etc.

ok, I tried the DivX Player 2 Alpha and it sys it can't load it. so I get them NIMO codec pack, and it just sits there ofreer in the DivX player, and does the same thing in realplayer that it did before

Open the video file in VirtualDub and go to File -> File Information. Post what you see here.

well,it popped up a little windows that said
"AVI Import Filter" in the title and "Reconstructing missing index block (aggressive)", right after I opened the file. so then i sat there and waited for the progress bar near the end, then after it's done, it says

"Warning: Virtual Dub has reconstructed the index for this file, but you have not specified rekeying in the extended options dialog. Seeking in this file may be slow"

          now the file info!

ack, I didn't want to type it all out, so here's the screenshot:

BTW thanks for stepping right up to the plate to help!

That's easy. You have got an incomplete file, which can be played by doing the following. Use DivFix to reindex it and it is playable. I believe the DivX Player is capable of playing incomplete DivX files as well, though it seems that it is not working in your case. Ensure that you have got DivX 5 installed in your system too.
