    problem playing back files

I have been having problems playing back two files that I am downloading. The first is a divx avi file. When I try and play it it says it is not a RIFF file??? I think it is a MPEG4 file as this is what comes up when I run avicodec.

The second appears to be an mpeg file, possibly again mpeg4 or mpeg3.

I have installed all the codecs I can think of, but still they won't play, also Tmpgenc will not let me load the avi file to encode to a vcd.

I would really appreciate any help, as I have tried everything I can think of and have ran out of ideas.

    thanks

In order to determine which codec(s) you need for a particular .AVI, you should do the following:

    1) Load the file into VirtualDub

    2) From the "File" dropdown menu, select "File Information"

    3) Post (here) EVERYTHING you see (both video and audio information), or post a screen capture .jpg of the information box
