Directshow filters//nemo codec pack

Im trying to configure nemo codec pack to best suit my computer an the avi files I watch.
but I don't understand what most of the items listed under directshow filters do.
id like to learn more about everything nemo codec pack offers.

cany anyone provide me links or info that might help my research w/ understanding direct show filters?

My suggestion would be to install only the codecs that you need. Collecting a large number of codecs in a system does not sound too fanciful to me. Often having too many codecs installed under one roof causes conflicts and it really beats each codec's original purpose.
