4:3 to 16:9?

Is it possible to convert a 4:3 .avi into a 16:9 .avi?

You can always do that by simply resizing to a new video resolution with the desired aspect ratio. However, it will distort the picture and I'm not aware of a method that will correctly do the task. Why would you want to do that anyway?
