Bad picture on TV

I think I do everything right ,I burn my svcd or dvd on disk. When I play the file on my computer they come out beautiful, clear and sharp. But when I play the disk on dvd player 27" TV it looks worse than the VHS I copied. Anybody know what else I need to do?

i got the same thing..

the original .avi was the best quality ive ever seen....then when i made it vcd....it looked awful on my tv....
