"And just to add my 2 cents worth in
The majority of DVD Captures i have seen have been of a very low standard when burnt to VCD with NERO, when comparing them to DVD's Ripped with TMPGEnc (when done correct)."
I just wanted to express a friendly difference of opinion to you - I've done many captures from a standalone DVD player, using my ASUS V7100 combo board and ASUS Live Video (which conveniently eliminates Macrovision ;>} ). I capture NTSC DVDs at a full 720x480 (ASUS "compression", which the best I can tell, is UNcompressed) and audio as PCM 48,000Hz. The resultant file quality is absolutely indistinguishable from the DVD. I can then use this as my base for creating either (or both!) a DivX file or a VCD.
By the way, I once dated a girl who could have appropriately gone by your screen name ;>}
