    Please help me !

I have been downloading some video files from Morpheus, and I cannot get them to run correctly on either Media Player or The Playa. Everytime I play the file on Media Player the clock starts but there is no video or audio produced....but the clock continues to go. So, apparently the file is being 'read' by the hard drive - but for whatever reason it cannot produce the movie.

I have downloaded 4 different files that have done this. They are all of the same movie - but different files (like I said they were from Morpheus). The movie was "Lord of the Rings" (I've already seen it three times).

The file names are as follows :

    (smr)lord_of_the_ring-(1of2).avi
Fellowship of the Ring WORKPRINT [DivX] (1-2).avi
    [vV]lord.of.the.rings.unsubbed.ts.tmfvcd.cd1.divx.avi

For the second one ("Fellowship.of.the.Ring WORKPRINT [DivX] (1-2)), I used the AVI FourCC Changer v1.00 to be able to play it - but all I got was what appeared to be a freeze-frame of the beginning of the video and no audio. The player kept "playing" it, with the time advancing....but no audio and just a frozen image on the screen.

I downloaded Divfix, and ran it on all of the files. It said it found errors, and so I did a REBUILD INDEX....but it didn't make a difference.

This isn't the first time I've had trouble playing downloaded DivX files on my computer. I have another (smr) file that is playable....so I don't think it has to do with that.

What's going on here ? Am I missing something major or something ? Why can't I play these files ?

Do you have the SMR-modified version of the DivX codec?

:::o you have the SMR-modified version of the DivX codec?

      uh, what ?

Can you ellaborate on that ? I didn't know there were different types of DivX codec - thought there were only different versions.

Now I'm reeaaally confused - but it sounds as though you are on the right track - please continue

Really, I'm not usually this pathetic when it comes to anything relevent to computers - but I am a newbie when it comes to video.

      Thanks so much setarip !

With some luck, you should be able to find the codec at the same site from which you downloaded the videos.

If not, you can obtain it at:

Download the SMR Codec which allows you to make and play ASF movies

        Let us know of your success ;>}

Oh, ok...yes I did use this software before...and it didn't work. I stripped the index and rebuilt it, but still got the same results.

I'm starting to think that maybe the files are bad...do you know of something that would be good to download to test my Media Player and The Playa to see if they can play the latest DivX ?

The ideal environment for me to downlaod it would probably be something like Morpheus, because that's where I'm trying to get my movie from.

Any help would be greatly appreciated....

          Thanks alot !

            I'm afraid I can't help you in that regard - I don't download videos.
