This is a pretty basic question, but I didn't see in on the FAQ. What's the consensus on the quality of DVD software such as WinDVDv3.0 vs. the better DVD players, such as a Toshiba SD3750. Since there is a TV out on my new video card, I'm wondering if I can get away with using my PC as my primary DVD player. How much quality would I be sacrificing? I am running a 1 gig processor with a GeForce 3 Ti500 video card. I have just a regular TV.
WinDVD vs. Toshiba???

1) The conservative way (cost-wise) to experiment would be to first see if the WinDVD-TV Out setup provides you with what you deem to be satisfactory results.
2) The other approach would be that a decent standalone DVD player can now be purchased (in the U.S.) for less than $100. -
If you watch a lot of DVDs mainly on your TV, then it is probably best to invest in a good home theatre system (standalone DVD player + Dolby/DTS Receiver + good medium to large TV set and some really good speakers).
Standalone DVD players are so cheap these days, you can get one for the price of 4 or 5 DVD movies, so if you already have more than 4 DVD movies, then you should invest in a standalone DVD player.
When you do buy one, make sure it supports CD-R and CD-R/W reading (and SVCD/MP3 support if you want it), since you may want to make your own VCD/SVCDs in the futureComment
