    The Playa and .mpegs?

I am totally new to all of this. I have an .mpg movie that I want to play and for various reasons, I don't like using Windows Media Player. I like how the Playa plays .avis but when I try to open an .mpg it tells me it can't open that location. Can it not play .mpgs? (the movie works fine in media player) Like I said, I'm really new to this, so don't assume much. I did install the Nimo Codec Pack...

Or can someone recommend a good free .mpg player? One that will allow me to resize the play screen (and not be limited to 50%, 100%, 200% and full screen like media player--what's up with that?)

taralee - I put in the DivX 411 Bundle and Playa works fine with mpeg movies. I do believe I like Realone best though.

In addition to the specific settings you mention, the Windows Media Player (at least the ones I've used on various systems) are fully compliant with Windows O/S handling of windows. That is to say, if you simply "grab" a corner of the window and drag it at a 45degree angle, you can expand or shrink it proportionately. If you "grab" a side you can increase/decrease either the width or the height.

Hmm, that doesn't work for me. If I grab the side or corner and pull, it increases the actual WMP window, but not the size of the movie screen, if that makes sense. I have the most recent version of WMP, and am running Win98.

I installed divX 411 bundle, and it still doesn't work. I guess I'll just have to live with WMP.

If you play DivX .AVIs (particularly those created with the ORIGINAL DivX codec v.3.11) and MPG files, you might want to install the older (more flexible) Windows Media Player v.6.4 - and you'll then be able to stretch the actual video as I described in my earlier post.
